Run streak? 1 mile a Day

So my bride and I have decided that we are going to do a challenge in the month of June. We have both agreed to run at least a mile a day during June. I am going to be doing this in additional to my preparation for the Mighty Mite triathlon in July. I am doing this for two reasons.

Reason 1: My run sucks in triathlons. I know this, and if you have read this blog long enough, then you know it also.  I always tell people that if you want to swim/bike/run better, then you need to swim/bike/run more. So why not take my own advice? Because it might actually work??? I am putting my money where my mouth is. So everyday in June, I am doing at least a mile. Somedays it will be longer, if that is what my plan dictates, but regardless of it, I am running.

Reason 2: Vanity. I need to lose about 5lbs. I am already down about 6 or 7lbs, but another 5 will get me back in the 180s. This will make a difference on the knees and get me back where I want to be (plus we are heading to the beach in late June).

So why is my wife doing this with me? She is a good accountability partner for me. Many times she is the one that gets me out doing things when I do not want too, so I know this will benefit us both. We have talked about other people doing running streaks and figured we should give it a try as well, even while on vacation at the beach. Who knows, it may last longer than 30 days!

What Does Vacation Mean to You?

I can guarantee when the word vacation is mentioned, meaning people are thinking about relaxing on the beach, drinking beverages and eating lots of food. I would even bet that many people expect to gain weight while on vacation and do not really think twice about it. Well, I have a different take on vacation.

To me, it means long runs on the beach. It also means long swims in an outdoor pool or better yet, the ocean. It means eating fresh food, straight out of the ocean and it also means drinking lots of water and Gatorade. You see, that is my mindset for the next 2 weeks while on vacation in Florida. And I can't wait to get it started.

See we left Memphis Saturday afternoon after we ran a 5K race that morning. We drove to Macon, Georgia or about 7 hours and then we got up and drove the rest of the way to the beach Sunday. Monday was a sleep in day (and I sort of tweaked my back loading the van), but the rest of the days are going to involve running on the beach and swimming.

I am normally not a huge fan of swimming in the ocean, but being able to swim and swim and swim without turning around at the wall is going to be awesome. I have my GPS packed so I should be able to get a good distance marker measured. I would like to run one day and swim the next and just alternate this daily. And I think I will. Plus I should be able to work on my tan while I am doing it.

To me, this is a vacation. No work to get in the way and no fast food, cause there really isn't anything close by! Win/Win/Win!!!

It's Good to Be Back!

Home that is. We had a great time on vacation and we did a lot! We spent a lot of time on the beach, we went kayaking in the ocean and saw Manatees and Dolphins, we went to Ponce Inlet and went to a lighthouse, we went to Universal Studios Islands of Adventures, me and the wife got to have a date night and we ate well! I was able to get out and do a lot of running and some swimming while gone, but I missed my bike. All in all, it was good for me to get away from work and my training plan for a while. Here are some of my favorite pictures from our trip!

The lighthouse at Ponce Inlet, this could also be our album cover if we start a family band!

This is the shot I sent to my friends at work asking if they missed me!

Me and Jake, he is growing way to fast!

Jesse and me at Islands of Adventure. He thought a lot of the rides were too scary for him!

Kayaking in the ocean where we saw Dolphins and Manatees!

Pool and Hot Tub at the Condo!

Jared and Me at Islands of Adventure!
So all in all I had a great time. Now I am ready to hit it hard and prepare for Redman. I have a good base built, now I just have to trust the plan, hit the workouts and nail down my nutrition. The focus is there this week! Let's hope it stays for awhile!

Vacaition Recap Days 1-3

So far, we are on day 4 on our vacation. We left the inferno known as Memphis on Wednesday for the beaches of Florida. New Symrna Beach to be exact! When we arrived on Wednesday afternoon as Tropical Storm Debby was just leaving to the Atlantic, so it made the ocean pretty rough that afternoon. The kids were still dying to get in the ocean, so we did head down to the beach, and it was rough!

Thursday was a beautiful day. I actually got up and did a little run that morning along the beach. Here is the back stretch of my run from our condo balcony.

We followed up on Thursday night with a great shrimp boil! I will definately need to do mreo running if I keepo eating like this!

Friday was a beach day in the morning then the Daytona Flea market in the afternoon. I love the flea market! I go there for three things. First is sunglasses. The market is filled with knock-off sunglasses! I love sunglasses, so I always buy 4-5 pairs while I am there, usually ends up costing me about $20.

Second thing is candy!  They have a huge area of candy to buy. Hot Tamales, gummy worms, skittles, you name it, they have it!

Third is fruit and produce!  Fresh, fresh, freashhhh!  Pineapples, banannas, watermelons, cantalopes, mushrooms, peppers... you name it, we bought it fresh! Awesome stuff!

So that is the recap from day 1-3. Today, I will be working on my tan again. I already knowcked out a 3 mile run this morning, with my bride joining me (#awesome). I plan on keeping up with my swim and run workouts, but it will be tough to get any biking in, unless I go to the fitness center to ride a bike. See ya!

Vacation is OVER!

Well I am back from vacation. It was a good vacation too! We did Disney, and we did the beach. we saw movies (wall-E and Hancock) and went to a beach wedding. We ate Rock Shrimp (ask me about this!), crab legs and cod sandwiches! I swam my laps and ran my miles on the beach. We body surfed, we Boogie boarded, we skim boarded, we fished, we also kayaked. We shot fireworks off over the ocean. We went to the 3rd largest Flea Market in the USA. All in all it was a good trip!

I have some things I want to blog about from our vacation, and I have a major announcement to make, so stay tuned!
