So much to say...

I am blogging tonight. I have a few things on my mind, but I do not want to ramble so I will try and pick something semi interesting. I could talk about the mouse we caught in the attic, my Nashville trip was boring, so that's out, but there is one thing I think I will vent on and yes it is about politics.

Here's the thing. I do not think everyone should have the right to vote. Matt Damon, Pam Anderson and Lindsey Lohan come to mind. I have been reading more blogs lately and there are more people making political comments than ever before. I'll admit, I am not a political guru, but I do try to keep up in the news and some of the crap people are talking, makes me think there should be a 2 part pre-vote test before anyone can punch a ballot.

First thing on the test I think should be a "Do you know who is who" exam. I get tires of hearing people voting for a candidate and then they cannot explain why.

Second thing on the test: Do you know where each candidate stands on different issues. This could even be multiple choice. Say you only have to get 3 out 5 right on the issues part.

If we really wanted to weed out the ones who should not be allowed to vote, then we would make the test an oral test. You are assigned a date and time and there are no make up dates. You go before a panel and they ask you questions and then you have 2 minutes to make your case as to why you get to vote. A panel of judges would then grade you and see if you pass. Now you might only get a good enough grade to vote in local elections which is equivalent to a C. Now if you get a B, then you not only get to vote in local elections, but also State elections.

If you get an A, then you get the trifecta. You get to vote in Local, State and National elections and there is one other thing. If you get an A, you are required to vote. No excuses for not voting. See if we are going to keep stupid uninformed people from voting, then we have to guarantee that the smart, informed people vote! So it is possible that California would not be a State that will count as much if none of them can pass the test.

  1. I'm liking the way you think. It's really getting on my nerves the way people are automatically assuming they should vote for Obama simply b/c he's a Democrat. Do they know anything about the man? The scary thing is I don't think they even care.

  2. I am not scared that they are voting simply because he is a Democrat- I am scared of the people that are voting for him simply because he is black. Isn't reducing a man to nothing but the color of his skin kinda insulting? Regardless of the reason?

Anyway, I think there is a simple solution to this. Each candidate would be required to present a plan or stance on each of the major issues. In SECRET. They would not be allowed to tell us in public.
THEN, when you went to vote we would have to take the time to vote on each of the major issues- whichever candidate got the most votes for his proposals would win. That way it would be unlikely that a candidate could win on a single issue. Not to mention that it would weed out some of the people who should not be voting.

I even think they should do it like those tests where they reword the questions so many times that they can gauge how you actually feel, not just what you want to feel.

  3. Yeah, the voting simply because of his race bothers me too. It's like people don't want to be bothered enough to find out if they really like his policies.
Another friend of mine thinks if he gets elected it would show other black people that there isn't a glass ceiling & people of color really can do whatever they want. Which I would agree with IF he had worked his way up. He was given everything in his life & came from a very wealthy family. It's not as if he was raised on a farm or in a ghetto struggling trying to put food on the table.

  4. Jessica, I love the idea about having their plan laid out with no name attached, I think that would be scary though.

    Natalie,
I agree that personally, I do not like it when people only vote becasue of the party line with are with, I think it takes away from the voter giving anything a real thought about what the canididate believes.
I think your friend might be alittle confused about Obama, whom I assume you referred to, but I am certain that he did not grow up in a wealthy family, but with a single mother.

  5. Passing a test before you can vote - - great idea!

Maybe we also need some better type of vetting before you can run for office, as well. . . (I am not thinking of a specific person here - just in general)

Thanks for visiting my blog with birthday wishes : )

  6. No, Obama didn't come from a wealthy family but they didn't struggle either. His mother remarried when he was young & he lived with his grandparents in Hawaii from 5th grade through graduation. He attended Ivy league college for undergrad & Law School.
