I am blogging tonight. I have a few things on my mind, but I do not want to ramble so I will try and pick something semi interesting. I could talk about the mouse we caught in the attic, my Nashville trip was boring, so that's out, but there is one thing I think I will vent on and yes it is about politics.
Here's the thing. I do not think everyone should have the right to vote. Matt Damon, Pam Anderson and Lindsey Lohan come to mind. I have been reading more blogs lately and there are more people making political comments than ever before. I'll admit, I am not a political guru, but I do try to keep up in the news and some of the crap people are talking, makes me think there should be a 2 part pre-vote test before anyone can punch a ballot.
First thing on the test I think should be a "Do you know who is who" exam. I get tires of hearing people voting for a candidate and then they cannot explain why.
Second thing on the test: Do you know where each candidate stands on different issues. This could even be multiple choice. Say you only have to get 3 out 5 right on the issues part.
If we really wanted to weed out the ones who should not be allowed to vote, then we would make the test an oral test. You are assigned a date and time and there are no make up dates. You go before a panel and they ask you questions and then you have 2 minutes to make your case as to why you get to vote. A panel of judges would then grade you and see if you pass. Now you might only get a good enough grade to vote in local elections which is equivalent to a C. Now if you get a B, then you not only get to vote in local elections, but also State elections.
If you get an A, then you get the trifecta. You get to vote in Local, State and National elections and there is one other thing. If you get an A, you are required to vote. No excuses for not voting. See if we are going to keep stupid uninformed people from voting, then we have to guarantee that the smart, informed people vote! So it is possible that California would not be a State that will count as much if none of them can pass the test.
