There are things I am learning while going through IM training, and I think I learned an important one the other night on my 3 hour trainer ride. And no, I did not learn that a 3 hour trainer ride sucks. I already knew that.
The thing I learned, or more like realized is that I should be doing these rides in bike shorts and not tri shorts.I know I will be changing into them at the race, so why am I not training in them now? I realized this about 2 hours into my ride. BUTT, I toughed it out and made it all three hours (did you see what I did there?) I have had to move my bikes to Friday night because of a running group I am leading on Saturday morning. I am committed to this group, so I am having to stay up later at night to get it done. Anyways, I watched the following while riding. I started with Revolution, I really like that show, then I watched "Does Someone Have to Go?" This is one crazy reality gem. I then finished my ride watching the movie "Looper". It wasn't a great movie, but it was a good trainer ride movie.
Anyways, it is going to be a weird week again for me, so here is my training plan for week 3:
Sunday- 8.4 mile run, which was cut short due to high winds and storms
Monday: 14 mile bike and 3900 yd swim
Tuesday: 3.7 mile run
Wednesday: 24.5 mile bike
Thursday: 6.5 mile run
Friday: 3150 yd swim
Saturday: 60 mile ride
***One note for me to mention is that my bride has started running with me on Thursdays. I have a 3 mile loop that she runs with me and then I go any additional mileage I need afterwards. I really do enjoy running with her!

Marathon Training Leads To Weird Thoughts...
Today was the first time I have been back in the pool since my last HIM in early September. Ever since that race, I have been focused on one thing, running. I do not want a repeat of last year and a 6 hours marathon. So everything has been run, run, run , run and more running. And more running, leads to me thinking, which can be good, but can be bad.
This has brought me ten (10) thoughts. I will share them now:
This has brought me ten (10) thoughts. I will share them now:
- It is so much harder for me to get up out of bed when I am just running.
- I have felt a lot better physically lately, and I have no idea if it is because I am only running or not, just something to think about.
- My bike is on the trainer in the hallway upstairs, every time I walked past her, I pat her on the seat, not in a creepy kind of way, but in an "I miss you" kind of way.
- I was looking at my past goals, and in 2008, my goals were to run 200 miles and bike 50 miles!
- I will be glad when the election is over.
- If PBS funding gets cut, can we expect more fundraisers on there, since that is all I ever see on PBS after 6PM?
- When running and training for a triathlon, I do not like to use music, but training for a marathon has to have music.
- I am not a big fan of running in the early morning cold and dark.
- I am a big fan of the following new TV shows: Revolution and the Last Resort.
- I have really missed the pool.
Today's swim, while it was only 1000 yards (18:10 BOOM!), it was still a great getaway. I miss the pool. I do not want to take steps backwards on swimming. In 2008, I swam 1000 in 24 minutes! So I am definitely going to step up and get a couple swims in during the week to add to my running. Now I need to work in biking!
The SockGuy sock giveaway is in the book and the winners will be announced by Monday morning. Then, I have another giveaway coming up, it's like Christmas in October on Daily Trainings!
