I had a pretty good weekend. I got a lot of what I wanted to do done and a lot of what I needed to do done. It just went by so fast! So here is a quick recap:
Saturday- I got up and rode with a friend (GH)of mine. GH is a very fast triathlete and it is hard for me to keep up with him. We rode 40 miles in 2:12. Overall, I felt good about my ride. My goal on this ride was to just get saddle time on the road, not the trainer. So a long endurance ride with some hills and speed work was perfect for me. When it got tough, I just kept chanting "Branson, Branson" over on my head! GH also introduced me to E-Gel, Electrolyte energy gels (more to come on that in an upcoming post). The legs were very tired after the ride, which tells me I still need a lot of work for my HIM, but with 6 months to go, I am feeling OK about it. The rest of the day was spent mowing the yard and fighting the Weedeater (it's broke).
Sunday- My oldest son and I went to volunteer at the Los Locos Duathlon. I have ran this race the last 3 years, but they moved it up from September to April, and I just wasn't ready for it mentally. So we handed out water. It was really fun. I got to see how the really fast guys approach transitions and I got to see the winner hit the finish line. It was also a lot of fun cheering on friends that I normally race against. 3 people I knew were doing their first duathlon, so it was cool to cheer them on. The other cool thing about this race was that the overall winner was a female! She chicked everyone! 2 mile run, 15 mile bike, 2 mile run and she won it in 1:02:34! My best time in this race is 1:17! It was impressive!
Well, watching the race and seeing the people finishing finish that I usually can beat, it made me really wish I had been racing. So I did the next best thing and went out for a run myself. It was a tough run. My legs were so heavy, almost like I had just rode 40 miles the day before! I knew it would be tough as soon as I started so I just wanted to tough it out and continue running and not stop, which I did. So it turned into a 5.5 mile run on a beautiful, warm day!
Tomorrow I am re-maxing out on the push-ups. I am hoping to get into the 80s!
Love that a girl won overall! Nice of you and your son to volunteer. It is fun to watch every once in a while rather than race.
ReplyDeleteWoo hoo for the girl that chicked everyone:) I love it!!! Girl power!
ReplyDeleteHoly crap, are you seriously into the 80's for the push-ups!?! I have the utmost respect for you...and I am just a wee bit jealous!
Wow ... pretty cool a chica won the du!! Isn't is awesome how volunteering for a race is the most motivating thing you can do for yourself?
ReplyDeleteYou are almost in the 80's ... that is solid James. Keep up the awesome work. I think Boomer is going to bust 100 this weekend. Not sure if I will make it to 100 but the results are already worth the work!
I did a re-test last ngiht on my push-ups and I hit 101! ot bad for an old guy huh? My new goal will be 125!
ReplyDeleteI really think all those months working out with the Perfect Pushout helped me along! It felt good to hit 100 yesterday!
