I am Going To Brag...

on my two boys!

As you may or may not know, I have three boys. Jake (11), Jared (9) and Jesse is 21 months. Jesse is really too young to get into sports right away, but I can say that he does very well keeping up with his brothers. I know that I will have ample opportunity to brag on Jesse before I know it, but this post is sports related and both of my boys did something I will not forget.

Jared started playing soccer this fall. Now I never, ever played soccer and have to admit I do not really know the what the rules of soccer are except that you kick it hard and you do not use your hands. Now his team this year had a bunch of kids that were also new to soccer, so the game scores were a little lopsided at times, and we only scored two goals all season

One of those goals was scored by Jared! He was playing forward (new soccer term I learned) and was pushing the ball up the field, and a teammate was running besides him the whole way. I thought he was going to take the ball away from Jared, but Jared squared up on the ball and kicked it past he goalie for a GOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!

It was a very proud moment for the family! Great job J-Rod!!!

Now Jake, is playing tackle football this year. He is playing QB for the JV team and is doing really well. He started out playing flag football for 2 years before convincing mom he was ready for tackle ball.

Last Monday night, Jake was playing QB. He took the snap on a QB sneak, busted through the line, stiff armed the LB and headed down the sidelines. A Defensive back tried to tackle him, but Jake shook him off for his first touchdown ever! I could see the smile on his face from across the field!

It has been a very proud moment as a Dad with my boys. I hope they enjoy sports as much as I did as a child and as much as I do as an adult! I really enjoy watching my boys compete! Keep up the good work guys, Dad is proud of the both of you!

Yellow Belt!

Yellow people! (Get it? was suppose to be hello people, but I changed it?? never mind) We had a big day last Friday in our household. The youngest Memphis has been taking Karate lessons for a little over a month now. He has made tremendous strides also, His jumping jacks are so much better, his focus has gotten better and his "yes sirs" and happening more frequently.

It came time for him to test for his yellow belt. His instructor told us that he was close and asked if we could attend an extra class or so that week. So I made sure we made it to extra practice and I did all I could, but he seemed kind of indifferent to it. Kind of like whatever, and I will say this frustrated me to no ends! So I had to sit him down and have a heart to heart talk with him. The last thing I wanted to do was make him go, and have him end up hating it while we are stuck paying for 11 more months!

So I explained to him what it would take to get his belt, and I told him that I wanted to help him but I can't do it for him. This is something only he can do and that it will take practice. Lots and lots of practice! So he tells me he wants it and he wants to practice and work for it!

So fast forward in the story to last Friday..TEST DAY! His class goes through goes through their drills, then the instructor sits them all along the fence and says that one of their teammates is going to test for their yellow belt. GO TIME BABY! I admit I was nervous.

As he is going through his combinations and defensive sets, I am mouthing the steps, sending everything i have in me to him, like I can get in his brain to help him remember the steps. He hits everything. Perfectly. I was so very proud, I felt my eyes well up a bit, and if you know me, you know that is a big thing. I think I was more nervous for him, then anything athletic event that I myself have been involved in!

It was quite a rewarding feeling seeing my son succeed the way he did! Another memory I never want to forget.
