Runner Pick up Lines for V-day!

Me and my bride trial running...
So here we are at Valentine's Day and I thought I might help you out with some good runner themed pickup lines that I searched the Internet for. Feel free to use them  and take credit (or blame) for them!

  1. Good thing I have GPS, cause I am lost without you!!
  2. Did you get lost on your run? Because Heaven is a long way from here.
  3. Your pace or mine? (winner)
  4. You can stop running after your dreams, I am right here.
  5. I am not sure if it's the run or you, but that took my breath away!
  6.  Do you like speedwork? Cause I am down for a quickie!
  7. Do you run track? Cause I relay want to date you!
  8. My love for you is like an ultramarathon, it goes on and on.
  9. Are you tired? Because you have been running through my mind day!
  10. What's your personal record (PR)? If you'd go out with me, then you'd be mine!
  11. Do you believe in love at first sight? Or should I pass you again?
  12. Now that I know your bib number, I think I should be able to get your phone number.
  13. Coach told me to bang out an easy 6, but you look like a 10!  #BOOM!
  14. Coach told me not to get my HR over 160, then I saw you!
  15. On a scale of 1-10, you're a 26.2!
Let the Lovefest begin and have a Happy Valentine's Day!

Rollercoaster...Up Down Up Down

So January is over, for all intensive purposes (my wife loves when I say that) and I am still plugging along with my workouts like a elephant going through a mudhole. I am not sure what my deal is but I can't seem to stay motivated. I have the "want to" in my mind, but physically I am sucking.

I want to know this answer...

As I wrote earlier, me and my bride are both signed up for  the Memphis Runner's Track Club Winter Cross Country Series. So far we have completed the 3K and the 5k trail runs. The 3K was a very cold day and was fun. It really felt good to get outside and run instead of being on the dreadmill. It was also the first time my wife had done a trail run, so that was cool. Two weeks after the 3K, we did the 5K. It was the muddiest, sloppiest run I have done in awhile. It was also the slowest 5K EVA! but we had fun.

The next days though, no running, no biking, no swimming, just eat, eat and eat!

I swear I am the heaviest I have been in years and I do not like it, but I am not doing much about it except writing it on my blog (much to often too) I do not know why I can't get focused. I know my running sucks cause my knees hurt when I run (because I am heavier than I have ever been). I know I should stop drinking Dr. Peppers (like the one I am drinking now), I know I need to get a plan and stick to it instead of changing it every time it gets tough. I do what I don't want to do (Biblical reference, know it?), and that is why I am frustrated.

I do not feel like myself.

I know what to do and what not to do, but I can't seem to get a grasp on either one. I feel like I am on a rollercoaster and this is new for me, and I don't like it.

One reason I started this blog was to keep me motivated and accountable. Sometimes it is just a place to vent and sometimes it is a place to call myself out. A lot of times when I am writing a post, it gets me fired up (you'd think I would write more huh?), so my posts will be all over the map, so for the one or two of you reading, thanks, I appreciate it. I know I will someday get out of my pity party, but for now, you get what I am thinking about!

Thanks, Happy January!

P.S. By my nest post, I hope to have enough runs in to do a review on my Hokas, or that's my goal!

A Trail Run, A Birthday, Accountability, Abs and Day 1 of Training...

Sunday I started off the year with a 3K trail race. It is part of the Memphis Runner Track Club winter cross country series. Every year I have improved on this run, for a 17:08 to a 16 flat last year. This year I was not sure how it would go. Trail runs to me are a lot like intervals. You run hard until the first turn when it bottlenecks up, rest and catch your breath and then run hard again as long as you can. Your placement at the beginning of the race is also very important, cause if you start to far back, you are screwed once you get into the woods. This year they flipped the course on us. Instead of us running and getting right into the woods and then having open space on the backside of the course, we had open space on the front end which helped unclog a lot of the course, which made it different all together, tougher I thought actually. Anyways, I was able to finish the race with a new PR for a 3K trail run! 14:59. A New PR and great way to start the year.

14:59 NEW PR 20/50 AG 125/529 OA
My youngest son celebrated his birthday on Saturday! Jesse turned 4! Hard to believe he is 4 years old already! What a blessed addition he has been to our family. Here is a picture of us making goofy faces in the mirror when we were suppose to be brushing his teeth!

Today, I started my Memphis In May Olympic (MIM) training. It was very, unusually cold cold here in Memphis and I did not want to get out of bed. 27 degrees cold!!  But thanks to this blog and trying to be accountable to what I write, I did not want to miss my 1st workout! The only decision I knew I would be making was either to run outside or run on the dreadmill. It was a tough call, but I decided to go wake up my inner Beast and hit the road. I actually wore the right amount of clothing, so it wasn't very bad. I usually have a 35 degree rule, which means under 35, I do not run outside, but rules are meant to be broken (**if my kids are reading this, this does not apply to you guys**) By the time I got back to the house, I had frost forming on my gloves! Tonight, I will be riding on the trainer during the National Championship game.

I recently acquire a new Cyclops Magento trainer from a friend of mine that couldn't t use it anymore. It was a great deal and I was wanting to get a newer one. I was able to sell mine to a friend that needed a trainer for his new bike, and I was able to give him a great deal as well! So it all worked out for the best. I have gotten to where I like the trainer and I was able to get some good workouts on it last year. I can't always get away to ride, and I do not like to ride alone, so this is my best option.

I have also been hitting the abba dabbas a lot. Core work and ab work are going to be a staple for me in January. My wife has been going to a trainer for awhile and is leaner and fitter than I am! So I am stealing some of her workouts. We have a circuit of exercises we have been doing every other night, and I am determined to stick with it through January to see if I can see a difference. I know I have said I am doing abs until I get my 6 pack before, but this time I think it will be easier to do with my smoking hot wife helping me. Along with the ab/core workouts and me watching my diet, I hope to see a lot of improvements! I love the feeling of my core feeling sore and tight after a workout, and feeling it the next morning is awesome!  I really expect to be at my goal weight long before May. I am finding that writing down what I eat keeps me from eating the crap I shouldn't eat! Funny how accountability works huh?

Make It A Double...

This weekend I am doing my first back to back races. A sprint triathlon on Saturday and a 5 mile road race on Sunday. To be honest, it is really a super sprint race on Saturday, so it is a shorter race, but a fun one.

The Sharpshooter Super Sprint Triathlon at Herb Parsons Lake kicks off at 8:30 AM Saturday. This race consists of a 400 yards swim, and 11 mile bike and a 2 mile trail run. So basically it is a "redline event" race, meaning balls to the wall, no holding back, a true sprint to the finish! I have been trying to hit under 1 hour at this race for the past three years. I have gotten 1:06 before, and I have gotten 1:02 before, but I can't seem to get under an hour.

So this year is the year I feel. I know my biking and running are stronger and I think I have finally learned how to race smarter. I have already looked at last years report and numbers and I plan on driving the course on Friday to remind me of any hills. I just need a decent swim, a good bike and a good run, which I have never had on this course.

Sunday morning at 7 AM is the second distance race in the Memphis Runners track Club Road Race Series. A 5 miler.  Last year I completed this course in 45:57, so obviously, that is the new goal to beat. I would like to be closer to 43, but we will see. I think it will depend on how hard I go Saturday. Anyways, I think the back to back races will be fun!

TOPIC CHANGE:

I recently out my last 5k time into the McMillan running calculator in preparation for my marathon coming up in December. I have to beat that time as well. Last year, I was happy to just finish my first marathon, but now I want to finish it better. I should not be a 6 hour marathoner in my mind, so I went to the site to see what my pace should be based off my 5K time and running 25 miles a week. According to that calculator, I should run the St Jude Marathon in 4:00. WHHHAAAATTTTTT??? I am suppose to go from 6:08 to 4:00? I know my running has improved, but I can't see it improving that much!   Let me be clear, I would love a 4 hour marathon, but I do not see that big a jump happening. I still need to figure out what all the print out is saying to me, so that may be a future post in itself. It is giving me my "Equivalent Race Times" and "Optimal Training Paces" and is a lot of digest and figure out. So let me know if you have ever used this calculator and if it was accurate.

2010 in Pictures

Instead of writing about 2010 and the 2 5k's, the 1/2 marathon, the 10k, the dash n splash, the 3 sprint triathlons and the Half Ironman race I did, I figured I'd show off one of the Christmas presents my wife and kids made for me.

2011 season has already started. I joined the Memphis Runners Track Club in November. They have a winter cross country series that started on Jan 2. It starts with a 3k race, then continues with a 5k, 8k, qnd a 10k. These are all trail runs, which should be alot of fun and also help me build up my running, since I need alot of help. Next post will be more about the 3k race.
