"It's very hard in the beginning to understand that the whole idea is not to beat the other runners. Eventually you learn that the competition is against the little voice inside your head that wants you to quit"

I think I have come to the realization that I really need to amp up my bike mileage. I have been focusing more on my running lately, but the bike might be a better way to go. If I can't get through the bike, then who cares about the run? I know Branson 70.3 is described as rolling hills, but I have been to Branson before and those aren't rolling hills. So I have to find a good balance of working everything in and still making strides. I still have 6 months, but my days of "completing" are behind me, I am ready to start "competing"!

As for my announcement, I am going to start writing for Target's Triathlon Team's blog. I can post a link to this blog, where I have more freedom to write what I want, and also to hopefully direct the readers to some of the blogs I follow. There are 580 members of the Triathlon club, so I think it will be wicked cool to write about my trainings and hopefully they can comment and get conversations going. We will see how it works out!

  3. I'm with ya when it comes to the bike James. I have already decided I need to start training with power to track my gains. I am very lucky in the fact that running comes easy to me, the bike does not. refocus is needed. What HIM plan are you going to do? I have my HIM on Nov 7th ...we'll have to compare plans.

Cool news about the Target Tri Blog. Post the link so we can all follow.

  4. The way I see it is that the bike portion takes up the majority of the race. So being mediocre on the bike will hurt you a lot more than being mediocre on the swim or run. The bike is my weakest leg, which is why I've settled a running focus for now. Best of luck on your goals. I look forward to hearing about your progress.

  5. THe only problem I see is having time to get "road" time during the week. So it may be a lot of traier rides after everyone goes to bed!

Jeff, I am using the BT plan for a HIM, and I start that plan on May 16
