Winter Running

I am not sure it is actually winter yet, but I have been having some great runs lately. I usually go out around 5:30 PM and do anywhere from 3.5 to 4 miles. It has been very cold lately, but it really does not bother me. I wear my ling tights,layer my shirts, gloves and a skull cap. I also wear a headlamp cause it gets dark so early. the light helps me see the cracks and bumps in the pavement, but it also helps cars see me, which is more important.

My times have been averaging just under 8 minute miles, which I am happy with because I am not really pushing it. Maybe it is because I am cold and want to get back home, I do not know. All I know is that I am feeling fast lately, and I enjoy the runs in the cold and darkness!

  1. 8 minute miles? I officially hate you. And, to be able to string 3.5 or 4 of them together in a row? So you were basically just getting me into a 5k with you so you could smoke me from start to finish, eh?

    I know I've made a little progress on getting my times down, but I don't think its happening fast enough. I need to get down to 8 minute miles. Do I need to run every day? I figured I needed a day or two off just to rest by muscles and bones! I need some new running gear too. I've got a bunch of baggy stuff from my fat days. It's probably not hurting me that bad, but it sure isnt helping me. Give me some pointers on both topics?

  2. Well, personally I cannot stand to run in baggy clothes and that is why I wear long tights to run in. I also feel faster in tighter stuff than in baggy clothes, and I know that sounds stupid, but it's truth.

    As far as getting faster, well, it seems you are running the same distance, the same route every morning. Try just doing one mile at your top speed and find out just how fast you can run a mile, I think you will be surpised. I usally have a day where I try and have a really fast run.

    I think once you see how fast you can run, it will help motivate you to run faster and then youwill KNOW that you can push it!
